The Topics Report within the Organic Research tool shows you the non-branded topics that drive organic traffic to competitor domains.
This feature (available with a Guru or Business subscription) helps you understand their content structure, and uncover actionable opportunities for your own content strategy. Running this report is an efficient first step in competitor topic analysis, saving you time and effort compared to manual research methods.
Best-Performing Topics
At the top of the Topics Report, key metrics provide a quick snapshot of a domain’s best-performing topics. These include:
- Number of Topics: The primary non-branded topics bringing traffic to the domain.
- Number of Pages: The total number of URLs within the given topic
Topics and Pages
In this report, a topic is a broad subject covering multiple related pages on a website. Each page within that topic provides more detailed information on a specific subject.
For example, the "Digital Marketing" topic could include pages about "SEO" and "Social Media Marketing.”
In the grid of tiles, you’ll see rectangles for every page. Each page on the queried domain will be organized with related pages in their overarching topic.
In the example below, the domain has 10 topics made up of a total of 200 pages.
For every main topic, you can see the estimated monthly organic traffic that it attracts to the website and the total search volume of those keywords.
One of the main topics of this site is “casual and fashion sneakers.” Within this topic are pages for “dunks,” “pink dunks,” “shoes,” “panda dunks,” “women’s shoes,” and “custom shoes.”
You can hover your mouse over any of the tiles to see more about a page.
As you review the tiles, you’ll see each page’s total estimated traffic, keywords, volume, and average KD (keyword difficulty).
To get closer keyword insights, click on any tile to see a detailed overview of that page’s top keywords.
Analyzing Your Competitor’s Content Strategy
The Topics Report provides deeper insights into content organization by showing you the hierarchy of topics on a domain so you can understand their content strategy.
Also, since every page shown in this report will have an average Keyword Difficulty %, you can evaluate which of the topics would be the least difficult for you to rank for with your website.
Then, you can reference the top keywords of your competitor’s pages and use them as a target keyword cluster for your own page. All of these steps will help you develop your content strategy.
Export Options
The Topics Report lets you export data to an Excel file or send a list of a page’s keywords directly to one of your existing keyword lists in the Keyword Strategy Builder.
